from Forgotten Bookmarks
This is the first time I’ve recognized someone from my real life on The Sartorialist. He was in my Media Topics: Election 2008 class last fall.
Class every day of the week
+ Two of those being MA classes at night
+ Mountains (yes, literal mountains) of reading for each one
+ Still not being completely unpacked into new apartment
+ Errands and everything else
+ The very little sleep I’ve been getting

= ZERO TUMBLARITY!!!
How the heck is this only week 2? I hate knowing that this semester is going to have really kicked my ass by the time it’s over because it’s already happening so early. With that said, see you on the weekend (if I’m lucky), Tumblr dashboard.
Last year’s birthday, we got so trashed at Schiller’s that we never even made it to another bar. I slept half naked on the bathroom floor, and my roommate and I both went to pilates hungover like whoa the next day (it was a class we took at school, and the first meeting of it, so we didn’t skip). It was all a little crazy, but definitely fun.
Last night, we had a very low key, no frills BBQ dinner with red wine, went and bought me a mattress and bedding (Labor Day sale), and used my Groupon to get cupcakes from Butter Lane (choc. cupcake w/ french vanilla icing is divine). It was fun, but totally not a big deal, I wasn’t the center of attention (it makes me uncomfortable), and it did not involve throwing up. Hooray!
These speakers are beautiful. They are $1,850. They will not be mine. (via Paste Magazine)
Finished reading The Nimrod Flip-Out by Etgar Keret, and I honestly don’t even know what to make of it. The review blurb on the cover is pretty accurate, I guess. It was only when I just went to go find a picture of the cover that I saw that. My copy was from the library, thus solid colored and jacketless. I was going to say that the stories were absurd, whimsical, gruesome, and sometimes ordinary all at the same time.
Wristcutters, based on one of his stories from another collection, made me want to check out his writing style since I loved the movie so much. I’ve been meaning to do so for awhile, and while I liked the stories enough, I wasn’t blown away by this collection. It could be that I just don’t know enough about Israeli culture to relate to the characters/settings and didn’t quite get his sense of humor. Glad I read it, but I’m not sure I’ll be going back for more except maybe to check out Pizzeria Kamikaze (graphic novel collaboration).
Great show…but it seems that everytime I go to see a band I have liked for a long time and just haven’t had the chance to catch before for whatever reason, they never play one of my favorite songs. I’m not the shout-out-a-request type, so maybe I should start taking a sign with me that says “Play [insert fave song here]!”
Anywho, here to listen to one album (on Spotify) and here to download another for free.
After three potential roommate arrangements that didn’t pan out for various reasons, about seven apartments seen at the beginning of summer, and seven or eight more seen since I got back from visiting home…I’ve been afraid to say anything for fear of jinxing it since I finally found a place a couple weeks ago. But the deposit check is in the hands of the landlord, I picked up the keys last night, and I am going to start moving things in this weekend so I think it’s safe. It’s been a long road and I feel an enormous sense of relief about it all.
Unfortunately, coming from a campus apartment, I have zero furniture and can’t afford to spend more than IKEA prices. I’ve been through the catalog and dog-eared some pages based on aesthetic appeal and price, but I know that some stuff is sturdier than others. I’m considering the Malm dresser, small Billy bookcase, and Vika Amon/Alex combo desk for the major things I need.
My question for you guys: What do you own (or have you owned) from IKEA that has held up reasonably well?
My reward to myself after another grueling five hours w/ the 2 year old? A milk chocolate mousse truffle from Max Brenner. I could use about five more of those.
Spent all week minus yesterday babysitting a 2 yr. old. She’s a cutie and pretty well behaved, but I am still glad that my weekend starts NOW…with sitting on the couch, air conditioner blasting…except I have to go back out into the dreaded sun to run several neglected errands. Ugh.
I hope I have something to celebrate soon so I can do the Pete Campbell.
This was definitely one of my favorite parts of the season premiere, probably because I am sometimes just as dorky of a dancer.
via (diyideas)ahhh book covers … i remember these :) … i used to use the paper bags from the grocery stores … this is much better
I haven’t covered my textbooks since middle school, I’m pretty sure, when they made us do it. Just might use this idea if I have a particularly clunky and/or ugly one this fall. So much cooler than BookSox (remember those?).
Consumer Advisory: Do not buy this stuff. Even the “gentle skin” one. You might as well slather hair conditioner all over your legs and call it a day.
13 Was a Very Bad Year
hey, I was just watching that very episode on Hulu.
[Former] Roomie and I went to see this at BAM earlier tonight and then went to dinner for our last hurrah before she moves back to Chicago early next week. I had never seen it before, so it was cool to watch it on a big screen. Biggest laugh from the entire theater? The increasing in intensity fireworks scene when they were kissing. Gee I wonder just what that was supposed to suggest.
If you’re in town and are so inclined, BAM’s Cary Grant cinema series ends on the 20th.
