Great show…but it seems that everytime I go to see a band I have liked for a long time and just haven’t had the chance to catch before for whatever reason, they never play one of my favorite songs. I’m not the shout-out-a-request type, so maybe I should start taking a sign with me that says “Play [insert fave song here]!”
Anywho, here to listen to one album (on Spotify) and here to download another for free.

Ch-ch-ch-Changes

After three potential roommate arrangements that didn’t pan out for various reasons, about seven apartments seen at the beginning of summer, and seven or eight more seen since I got back from visiting home…I’ve been afraid to say anything for fear of jinxing it since I finally found a place a couple weeks ago. But the deposit check is in the hands of the landlord, I picked up the keys last night, and I am going to start moving things in this weekend so I think it’s safe. It’s been a long road and I feel an enormous sense of relief about it all.

Unfortunately, coming from a campus apartment, I have zero furniture and can’t afford to spend more than IKEA prices. I’ve been through the catalog and dog-eared some pages based on aesthetic appeal and price, but I know that some stuff is sturdier than others. I’m considering the Malm dresser, small Billy bookcase, and Vika Amon/Alex combo desk for the major things I need.

My question for you guys:  What do you own (or have you owned) from IKEA that has held up reasonably well?

My reward to myself after another grueling five hours w/ the 2 year old? A milk chocolate mousse truffle from Max Brenner. I could use about five more of those.

TGIF

Spent all week minus yesterday babysitting a 2 yr. old. She’s a cutie and pretty well behaved, but I am still glad that my weekend starts NOW…with sitting on the couch, air conditioner blasting…except I have to go back out into the dreaded sun to run several neglected errands. Ugh.

I hope I have something to celebrate soon so I can do the Pete Campbell.

This was definitely one of my favorite parts of the season premiere, probably because I am sometimes just as dorky of a dancer.

ahhh book covers … i remember these :) … i used to use the paper bags from the grocery stores … this is much better

I haven’t covered my textbooks since middle school, I’m pretty sure, when they made us do it.  Just might use this idea if I have a particularly clunky and/or ugly one this fall. So much cooler than BookSox (remember those?).

Consumer Advisory: Do not buy this stuff.  Even the “gentle skin” one. You might as well slather hair conditioner all over your legs and call it a day.

[Former] Roomie and I went to see this at BAM earlier tonight and then went to dinner for our last hurrah before she moves back to Chicago early next week. I had never seen it before, so it was cool to watch it on a big screen. Biggest laugh from the entire theater? The increasing in intensity fireworks scene when they were kissing. Gee I wonder just what that was supposed to suggest.
If you’re in town and are so inclined, BAM’s Cary Grant cinema series ends on the 20th.

Came across this shirt that S has had for years while looking for something else today. I say that it will never be as funny again because it’s just plain mean to mock someone who had a sad, tragic death. He says that it’s definitely still too soon, but it’ll be OK to wear again by the time the MJ movie rolls around.
What do you guys think?

Peter Pan now serving DONUT ICE CREAM SANDWICHES!
I went and had one (well, half of one) today before going to check out an apartment further north in Greenpoint.  Old fashioned donut w/ butter pecan ice cream. OMG…if you’re in NYC and you like delicious things, go have one ASAP.
Tip: either take someone with you to split it because you might feel disgusting if you eat the whole thing alone, or buy donuts and take them home and make the sandwich yourself with whatever ice cream you like. It’s something that would be totally at home on This Is Why You’re Fat, but worth the indulgence every not-too-often, I think.

Q: What happens when you go home to your Muslim family and can’t drink for a month?

A: You go back to the city and get a headache after 2.5 glasses of wine on a Friday night and go home way too early.

New Favorite Blog:  Forgotten Bookmarks.  The person running it says, “I work at a used and rare bookstore, and I buy books from people everyday. These are the personal, funny, heartbreaking and weird things I find in those books.”
